Summer Microadventure Series: Fail

If you’re going to succeed in life, you’ve got to get comfortable losing. Embrace failure. Accept rejection. So, let’s get the ball rolling.

Alright gang, this week’s microadventure is a doozy.

You’re going to fail. Lose. Get told no.

Sounds awful right?

But here’s the thing—it only sucks in the build up. Afterward, it’s not that bad. The whole situation is unpleasant, but we give way to much power to the fear of failure and rejection… Way more power than it actually has. And please note that I used the word, “we.” That’s because I’m just as bad about this as anybody else!

But as the Aerosmith song goes, “You got to lose to know how to win.” So let’s learn.

Here’s all you have to do this week. Ask for something that you want or give something a whirl that you’ve always wanted to try before.

Oh, and fail. That second part is very important.

Now, it’s possible that you may succeed. If so, I have great news—that’s awesome. Alas, I also have some bad news. You’ll need to try something else, because remember, the goal this week isn’t to succeed, but to fail. To get told no. And to get comfortable losing.

Yes, it’s a little paradoxical; to succeed at this challenge, you must fail.

But there it is. A little short-term suck for some long-term growth.
