Greetings Intrepid Daily readers! My publication schedule has been a little erratic as of late, and I appreciate everyone’s patience with me. I wanted to take an opportunity to bring you up to speed about what I’m up to, what’s going on, and what’s coming up.

Current Events:

Since completing the Great River Trail Trash Trek, things have been pretty quiet. I’ve ridden my bike as much as possible, continued training at Plan for Adventure, done plenty of reading, and I’ve been working on developing new skills, like archery.

Recurve bow
My first bow.

I’ve wanted to take up archery for about a year now, and I’ve finally taken the plunge. I chose to go with a takedown recurve after some guidance and help from a local pro-shop. I’ve been hitting the range two to three times a week, and I’m slowly improving. I still need a lot of practice, and I have a lot to learn, but I’m enjoying the journey.

Arrows in target
One of the best ends I’ve shot so far. I’m not always this accurate, but at least I usually hit the target now.

Since I’m still between jobs, I’ve also been trying to be a good house-spouse, which in our house means baking many loaves of zucchini bread, dehydrating bananas, and making bison jerky.

Zucchini bread and bison jerky
Here are the goods. They turned out pretty well. I’m apparently pretty decent at this.

If you’ve been following me awhile you might have read my post about running the Bix last year. Well, I’m doing it again this year, so I’ll be running up Brady Street in Davenport on Saturday morning. I’m hoping to finish in an hour or less this year, so I’ll let you know how it goes.

Posts in Progress:

I’ve posted a little erratically lately, and I apologize for not keeping a more regular publication schedule. There’s a lot coming this summer, and I promise I’ve got some great stuff in the works for you to read about.

Though I’ve written a conclusion to the Great River Trail Trash Trek, I fully intend to share a more robust review of the week I spent on the trail. I’ll tell you where I stayed, where I ate, the good times, and the bad.

Sylvan Slough on the Great River Trail
Here I am at Sylvan Slough on the last day of the Trek.

Back in May, Clarissa and I drove to Kentucky and stayed at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. While there, we had the opportunity to explore Daniel Boone National Forest, and hike the Natural Arches trail. We had a great time on that trip, despite a few things going wrong, so you can count on me sharing all of the ups and downs. I’m a little behind, but I promise they’re on the way.

Here we are before setting out on eight mile hike under and around the arch you see in the background.

Technical Difficulties Fixed (I Hope!):

A number of readers have encountered some problems on my blog. My posts haven’t been showing up in their reader, they haven’t been able to comment, and they haven’t been able to share some posts.

First off, I’m sorry for the inconvenience everybody! I always welcome comments, and I always appreciate when you share my posts, so please feel free to do so anytime that you’d like to. I believe that I have resolved all of these technical issues, but if encounter any issues, just let me know.

Upcoming Adventures:

Come October, I’ll be running the Yosemite Half Marathon with my friend Tim, who I visited in LA last December. I’m looking forward to visiting California again, and I’m incredibly excited that Tim got us permits to hike Half Dome while I’m there. Additionally, I’m planning on road tripping to get out West, so you can expect some great tales from the journey.

I’ve previously written about why it’s good to have a passport, even if you don’t have any plans for international travel. In that post, I mentioned that you never know when an opportunity might arise. Well, here’s the perfect example; Clarissa’s job is sending her to London for a week, and since they’re covering her travel and accommodations, it would be silly not to tag along, right?

So Sunday morning, the day after I run the Bix, Clarissa and I will hop on a plane and head to London. At the end of the week, we’ll take a train to Paris where we’ll stay a couple of days. While we’ve both traveled internationally, this will be the first time that we do so together. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited.

In Conclusion:

We’ve got lots of great stuff going on, and we’re excited for everything that’s coming up. Things will be quiet on the blog and social media for the next couple of weeks, but expect some more great content when I get back. In the meantime, I’ll have Rules for Intrepid Living scheduled to post automatically in my absence, so you’ll have at least a little something to read while I’m away.

While I’m gone, I do have one thing I’d like you to do; go on an adventure of your own. Near or far, large or small, just get out there and do something. Then come back and tell me all about it.

Stay intrepid everybody.
